Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV) at the African Development Bank, will hold a learning event on Wednesday, 29 November 2023, on the theme of development intervention sustainability. The aim is for stakeholders to gain a deeper understanding through evaluative knowledge of what is working, what isn’t, and why.

An analysis of 72 Independent Evaluations conducted between 2018 and 2022 found that shortcomings in economic and financial sustainability were recurrent (found 31 times), as were institutional sustainability and strengthening of capacities (found 30 times).

Entitled “Improving the sustainability of development interventions: what will it take?,” this event will serve as a platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and good practices to improve the sustainability of the benefits from Bank development interventions.

Overall, the event will aim at responding to the question of what can be done differently by the Bank, governments, and other development partners for development impacts/results to last.
