6th APNODE Annual General Meeting goes Virtual

Theme: Enhancing Parliamentary Oversight and Capacity for Action during COVID-19: Lessons from Africa

The 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the African Parliamentarians’ Network on Development Evaluation (APNODE) will be held virtually on Thursday and Friday, 26-27 August 2021, hosted by the Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV) at the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Themed Enhancing Parliamentary Oversight and Capacity for Action during COVID-19: Lessons from Africa, the AGM will, among others, reflect on the milestones and accomplishments of the Network’s over the past six years to help define its next six. The AGM will also serve as an occasion for APNODE members and partners to come together and reassess the accomplishments of the Network and its efforts to expand its visibility and footprint, collaborations with national and regional parliaments, as well as with other evaluation stakeholders.

The AGM will blend plenary and panel sessions. Aside from statutory agenda items such as the review and approval of the 5th AGM minutes and the Network’s Annual and Financial Reports, the forum will elect a new APNODE Bureau, as well as hold two high level panel sessions on: a) Parliamentary Action in times of Crises: Engaging constituents and addressing citizen’s needs – Lessons from COVID-19; and, b) Enhancing Parliamentary Oversight for Transformative Development – What are the Strategic Imperatives? The AGM will be preceded by an introduction session for new members and first-time attendees.

Who can attend: The 6th APNODE’s AGM is by invitation only. The event will welcome Speakers and members of Parliament, former parliamentarians, as well as representatives from development partners and centres of expertise such as AfDB, UNDP, UNICEF, UN-Women, Centers for Learning on Evaluation and Results (CLEAR), African Evaluation Association (AfrEA), Global Parliamentarians’ Forum on Evaluation (GPFE), and Réseau Francophone de l'Evaluation (RFE). Also expected are representatives from Africa’s regional parliaments, notably, the ECOWAS Parliament, East African Legislative Assembly, the Pan African Parliament, the Inter-Parliamentary Union of IGAD Member States, and the SADC Parliamentary Forum.
