Status: On-going

Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV) at the African Development Bank Group (AfDB or ‘the Bank’), is undertaking an evaluation of the Bank’s support for Economic Diversification over the period of AfDB’s Ten-Year Strategy (2013-2022).

The evaluation will cover all approved, ongoing, and closed Bank projects, policies, and initiatives implemented under the pillars or priority areas that focus on economic diversification in the Bank’s regional integration and country strategy papers. The primary objective of the evaluation is to examine whether the Bank’s support for economic diversification in its Regional Member Countries meets their needs and has achieved the intended results, while taking into account the support received from other multilateral development banks and development partners.

The evaluation is expected to bridge existing knowledge gaps on economic diversification within the Bank, and generate lessons and evidence to inform the Bank’s future support within the context of the AfDB’s next Ten-Year Strategy (2023-2032) and its “Build Back Better” agenda in the Post Covid Era. The evaluation will be theory based and will apply mixed methods in line with the guidance in IDEV’s Evaluation Manual and the revised international evaluation criteria.

The evaluation will be launched in August 2023 and is expected to be concluded within 12 months.
